Abstract These Regulations make provision under the Food Safety Act 1990 in relation to bones, bone-in-beef and other food and ingredients for human consumption derived from bovine animals aged more than 6 months. They prohibit the sale of bone-in-beef to the ultimate consumer (reg. 3) and in general the sale of food or substances having ingredients which are derived from bones of bovine animalsconcerned. Deboning of beef for the sale of for human consumption shall only take place at food premises (reg. 6). Regulation 7 imposes requirements in relation to storage of bones on food premises. Bones shall be disposed of as if they were animal by-products referred to in Part II of Schedule 1 to the Animal By-products Order 1992. Records shall be kept by the occupier of food premises in accordance with regulation 9. Regulation 10 provides offences and penalties.
