Résumé

With this Decision, the constitution of a Committee is established. Its work shall be a) the study of problems arisen -for first time in the Greek market- connected to the conduct of special controls for genetically modified organisms contained in foodstuffs and food products, in compliance with Council Regulations No. 258/97, 1139/98, 49/2000 and 50/2000, b) the issuing of a special protocol to be followed during the controls (it should be reported: the types of raw materials and final products that are to be examined, the points and techniques of sampling, the method of control and the number of required samples so that their representativity and the reliability of results are ensured) and c) the follow-up and the coordination of the protocol and the evaluation of results by its application. The work of the Committee will be focused on controls that are applied, in a first phase, on foodstuffs that are produced entirely or partially by genetically modified soya seeds (Commission Decision 96/281/EC) and genetically modified maize (Commission Decision 97/98/EC). In the work of the Committee is also included the examination of the possibility of introducing onto the Greek market foodstuffs genetically modified not being permitted to circulate by the European Union.
