Abstract

Regulations to implement provisions of the Fisheries Act, 1972. The 14 regulations carry, inter alia, the following titles: Forms (2); Crayfish and Trochus shells (9); Seining in Honiara Harbour (11); Conditions of fish processing establishment licence (15); Protection of certain turtles (17); Handling and marketing of certain fish products (18). Every application, licence or other document required to be prescribed under the Act shall be in conformity with the appropriate form set out in the First Schedule. Any person who catches and retains, or sells or exposes for sale, or buys or exports undersized Trochus shells or crayfish Panulirus shall be guilty of an offence (reg. 9). Fish processing establishments used exclusively for the production of dried fish are exempted from provisions of section 9 of the Act (reg. 12). Fish processing establishment shall comply with standards as to construction, equipment and sanitation set out in regulation 13. The Principal Fisheries Officer may declare Regulated Areas for the purposes of controlling the handling and marketing of fish (reg.18).
