Abstract

This Act establishes a Finnish fishing zone extending to eight nautical miles from the outer limits of the territorial sea. However, the fishing zone shall not extend beyond the territorial sea of another state and beyond lines drawn in accordance with Agreements with the Soviet Union of 1965 and the centre line extending at a equidistance from the territorial sea of Sweden and the territorial sea of Finland (sect. 1). The Government of Finland has the exclusive right of control and management of fisheries in the zone. As for fishing rights in the zone, the provisions on sea fisheries beyond county limits in the sense of section 2 of the Fisheries Act shall apply. This applies also to fishing for domestic consumption and recreational purposes by citizens of Sweden, Norway, Iceland, and Denmark other foreign fishing shall be regulated by Decree. Supervision on observance of the present Act and regulations issued pursuant to it shall be the task of border officers, the police, customs officers, and fishery authorities. (7 sections)
