Country/Territory Document type Regulation Date 2011 Source FAO, FAOLEX Subject Fisheries Keyword Marine fisheries Fishery management and conservation Monitoring Data collection/reporting International relations/cooperation Research Artisanal fishing Abstract This Resolution of the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC), requires, in order to improve the collection of scientific data, at least 5 % of the number of operations/sets for each gear type by the fleet of each CPC while fishing in the IOTC area of competence of 24 meters overall length and over, and under 24 meters if they fish outside their Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) to be covered by an IOTC observer scheme designed for scientific data collection purposes. The Resolution sets out obligations of IOTC Contracting Parties and Cooperating Non-Contracting Parties (CPCs) in respect of such Scheme and sets out duties for observers. Specific provisions is made for artisanal fishing vessels and purse seiners. The Resolution sets out also procedural rules for data collection and exchange.
