Abstract The present Law enforces the Federal Waterworks Act of 21 June 1991. The purpose of the Law is to ensure the protection of human beings, animals and appurtenances of value against the damage resulting from water, to conserve the waters in a natural way or to arrange them in a natural way and to use them sensibly. The Law shall be applied to all public surface waters and to private surface waters where this is explicitly stated.
