Abstract

Decision directed to Secretariat

The Secretariat shall: 
a) issue a Notification inviting Parties to: 
i) provide concise summaries of new information on their Stichopodidae and Holothuridae conservation and management activities, in particular: 
A. the making of non-detriment findings for Stichopodidae and Holothuridae spp. included in the Appendices; 
B. the making of legal acquisition findings for Stichopodidae and Holothuridae spp. included in the Appendices; 
C. domestic legislation and related conservation, management, and enforcement measures for Stichopodidae and Holothuridae spp. included in the Appendices; 
D. seizures, fines, other penalties, and prosecutions information; 
E. legal import, export or re-export not reflected in CITES annual reports submitted by the Party; 
F. any quotas, including any zero quotas, and any trade restrictions for CITES species of Stichopodidae and Holothuridae; and 
G. any identification resources; and 
ii) highlight any questions, concerns or implementation challenges relating to trade monitoring, enforcement capacity, and CITES implementation regarding international trade in Stichopodidae and Holothuridae spp. included in the Appendices;

b) collate information received in response to the Notification and make it available for the consideration of the participants of the technical workshop referred to in sub-paragraph c); 

c) subject to external funding: 

i) prepare background documents, including the collation of information received in response to the Notification referred to in sub-paragraph a) for consideration by the technical workshop referred to in sub-paragraph ii); and 

ii) convene a technical workshop, which includes technical experts and members of range States, to review background documents and to consider the challenges associated with the implementation of CITES, including conservation priorities, management and enforcement needs related to the trade in members of the Families Stichopodidae and Holothuridae included in the CITES Appendices; and 

d) submit the collated responses to the Notification to the Parties referred to in sub-paragraph a) and findings and recommendations of the workshop referred to in sub-paragraph c) to the Animals Committee and the Standing Committee, within their respective mandates.
