Abstract
1. Welcomes the further progress made by the Open-ended Working Group of the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal in finalizing technical guidelines on the environmentally sound management of persistent organic pollutant wastes and affirms the high priority attached by the Conference of the Parties to the guidelines, particularly as they relate directly to the issues outlined in paragraph 2 of Article 6 of the Stockholm Convention;
2. Also welcomes the strengthened cooperation between the Secretariat of the Stockholm Convention and the Secretariat of the Basel Convention;
3. Requests the Secretariat to prepare a report on the guidelines relating to persistent organic pollutants if they are adopted by the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention at its eighth meeting. The report shall assess the guidelines to identify contents that are relevant for the purposes of the requirements of the Stockholm Convention and highlight the elements that are suitable for consideration at the third meeting of the Conference of the Parties for possible action under paragraph 2 of Article 6 of the Convention.
