The Regulations define the following sources of herbal medicine: traditional knowledge and cultural heritage; raw materials in the form of biological resources, genetic resources, mineral resources, manufactured and processed on the basis of geographical indications, local wisdom, social and cultural heritage, in a sustainable manner; properties based on evidence, safety and quality requirements. The Regulations concern: strategies and programmes for strengthening research and innovation in the health sector through the use of herbal medicines; strategies and measures for protecting natural resources; protection of natural parks, forests and reserves, as well as marine and fishing areas, where the sources of herbal medicine can be found; definition of a roadmap for the development and utilisation of herbal medicine; monitoring, evaluation, control.
