Résumé

This Regulation of the Forestry Development Authority (FDA) regulates chain saw milling in order to optimize its positive benefits and also mitigate its negative effects. It establishes a structured process by which authorization for chain saw milling is requested, reviewed, and granted or denied. Its object is to ensure that chain saw milling is carried out in an environmentally appropriate manner and through procedures and practices that promote the mutual interests of chain sawyers, communities and sustainable forest management in Liberia. Chain saw milling permits shall be issued for operations only in Community forests and private or deeded forest land. The area must be identified by the FDA as suitable for commercial use and validated in accordance with the National Forestry Reform Law of 2006. A permit holder must receive both a written permission from the FDA and the Free Prior Informed Consent of the community in community forest areas or the private land owner.
