The Schedules to these Regulations specify maximum levels for foreign substances in foods mentioned in those Schedules. If prescribed maximum levels are exceeded the National Food Authority, or the municipal supervisory authority after consultation with the National Food Authority, may prohibit or prescribe conditions for the offering for sale or other handling of food that contains an excessive level of foreign substances. If levels specified in Schedule 2 are exceeded, the food shall be considered unfit for human consumption. If no level for a foreign substance in a specified food is prescribed, the National Food Administration may establish the level to be applied in each individual case.
