Resumen This Regulation applies to the transport of live vertebrates, including veterinary checks carried out by the competent inspection bodies and border veterinary inspectors. Only articles 3and 27 of text shall apply to: a) the transport of animals by farmers in their own agricultural vehicles, or means of transport in cases where due to geographical conditions certain species of animals are relocated to other climatic zones; b) the transport of own animals by their own means of transport, carried out by farmers on distances up to 50 km from their farm. This Regulation applies without prejudice to the implementation of other veterinary regulations. This Regulation does not apply to: a) the transport of animals not carried out in connection with an economic activity; b) the transport of animals directly to veterinary organizations and private practice veterinary clinics. It is forbidden to transport animals or allow them to be transported in a way that could cause injuries or unnecessary animal suffering. The following conditions must be met during the transport of animals: a) all necessary measures must be taken in advance to minimize the length of the journey and meet the needs of animals during such journey; b) the animals must be able to withstand the journey; c) means of transport must be designed, constructed, maintained and managed in a manner to avoid injuring and suffering animals and to ensure their safety; d) loading and unloading equipment must be properly designed, constructed, maintained and must be used and managed appropriately, in order to avoid injury and suffering to animals and to ensure their security; e) staff working with animals must be adequately educated or trained for that, in order to be able to perform tasks without the use of force or use of any other method that can cause unnecessary anxiety, injury, or suffering to live animals that are transported; f) transport to the place of destination must be carried out without delay and animal welfare conditions on a regular basis are inspected and maintained in an appropriate manner; g) animals must be provided with a sufficient floor area and height, appropriate to their size, and duration of the trip; h) animals must have access to water, food and rest at appropriate intervals, in accordance with their specie and size.
