Abstract

These Regulations, issued pursuant to the provisions of article 29 of the Law no. 54 of 1996 on Food (Control and Sale) and incorporating European Directives 94/35 EC on sweeteners for use in foodstuffs and Commission Directive 95/31/EC laying down specific criteria of purity concerning sweeteners for use in foodstuffs and infant foods, determine the purity criteria of the permitted sweeteners allowed to be added to food as well as their maximum level and specify the types of food that can contain certain sweeteners. In case of violation of their provisions, these Regulations provide for offences. The Regulations define the following terms: infant; toddler; sweetener; permitted sweetener; reduced calories; food additive; sale; complex food; packing.
