They give effect to various Community Directives and Decisions in this field and, in particular to Council Directive 2001/18/EC. The Regulations make provision for, among other things: the classification and grading of seed potatoes for purposes of quality, plant health and varietal purity; the marketing, packing and labelling of seed potatoes (and in particular of genetically modified seed potatoes; a conservation-varieties derogation; production methods in the interests of plant health; and testing and sampling of seed potatoes.
