Abstract This federal Law regulates the requirements for the promotion of the generation of electricity from renewable sources; the organization and functioning of renewable energy communities and their participation in funding schemes; the conditions for promotion of the production and extraction of gas from renewable sources; the requirements for the promotion of the production of hydrogen, from renewable energy sources; guarantees of origin for energy from renewable sources and the recognition of guarantees of origin from another EU member state. The Law further provides for green certificates for gas from renewable sources and the creation of an integrated Austrian network infrastructure plan. This Law is enacted with the aim of achieving the goals of the Paris Climate Protection Agreement 2015; the goal of the European Union to cover at least 32% of the gross final energy consumption of the Union with renewable energy by 2030; as well as achieving the climate neutrality goal in Austria by 2040. The Law aims to ensure the energy-efficient, resource-saving, market-conforming and competitive generation of electricity and gas from renewable sources and using the funds to promote electricity and gas from renewable sources efficiently.
