Entry into force 1 May 2002, with the exception of Chapter III - which implementation shall be determined by local authorities.
Abstract

The Regulation’s purpose is to protect the environment in Svalbard from harmful and to prevent and reduce pollution which may be environmentally damaging. In order to prevent pollution, the Regulation addresses waste management, spill of hazardous substances, water and sewage waste. Specified prohibited hazardous waste is listed in Appendix 1.
