Abstract The objective of the present Regulation is to prevent and reduce harm to the environment in Svalbard from waste and pollution. With the limitations imposed by international law, this regulation applies to Svalbard's land areas and the sea area up to the limit of its territorial sea. Chapter 9 also applies to foreign ships. The Regulation contains the following Chapters: 1. Objective, scope of application and definitions; 2. On contaminated soil and dredging and dumping at sea, etc.; 3. On the storage of hazardous waste, petroleum products, etc. in tanks; 4. On sewage; 5. [not yet enacted]; 6. On littering; 7. On collection and treatment of waste; 8. On hazardous waste; 9.
