Abstract

The Regulation sets rules on the promotion of good animal health and welfare by ensuring that the Norwegian Food Safety Agency receives necessary information from veterinarians on diseases in animals (mammals, including marine mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, bees and bumblebees). The Regulation will also contribute to safeguarding the environment and applies to diseases in animals on Norwegian territory and territorial sea, Norwegian air and maritime islands, installations on the Norwegian continental shelf and Svalbard. Laboratories that detect new cases of disease in herds which the Agency has imposed restrictions shall give the Agency written notification and submitted within 24 hours after detection. Veterinarians detecting C disease in livestock, will provide the Agency with a written notification no later than 7 days after detection. The Norwegian Food Safety Agency may in special cases grant exemptions from the provisions of these regulations if they do not conflict with Norway's international obligations, including the EEA Agreement.
