Abstract

The purpose of this Regulation is to manage wild deer's habitat, productivity and diversity by arranging local and sustainable management aimed at commercial and recreational use only of cervids resources. Municipality shall adopt objectives for the development of populations of elk, deer and roe deer where there is hunting access of the species, monitoring their grazing, population trends, damage to agriculture and forestry and range of wildlife accidents on roads and rail. Two or more municipalities should work together on common goals for deer populations, coordinating planning across municipal boundaries to protect the population or social considerations at a regional level. A Caribou Committee shall work to achieve sustainable management and habitat objectives and has the task of deciding the annual quota for various wildlife areas. In special cases, a wild area is divided into several geographical zones, with the equivalent quota and minimum size. The Norwegian Environment Agency provides guidance on legal arrangements and cooperation across regional boundaries with regard to this species. The municipality determines the minimum area for elk and deer and may set different minimum size requirement for different parts of a municipality. Proposal to change the minimum size shall be submitted by 1 March and determined by the municipality within 15 April.
