Therefore, the Tuscany Region prohibits the cultivation as well as the production of species which contain GMOs (art. 2). Foodstuffs containing GMOs marketed within the regional territory shall meet the labelling requirements established by Council Regulation 1139/98/EC (art. 3). Supply of products containing GMOs is prohibited in regional schools and hospitals (art. 4). The Regional Council shall develop food educational programmes and promote information campaigns (art. 5). Surveillance functions are entrusted to the Regional Agency for the Development of the Agricultural and Forestry Sector (ARSIA) by article 6, which establishes also penalties to be applied in case of infringement.
