Abstract

This Regional Act, which is divided into four Parts, lays down the procedure to be followed for valuating the impact that certain plans, projects and works (those listed out in the Annexes to the Act) may have on the surrounding environment. The Environmental Impact Assessment aims at: (a) contributing to the protection of nature and the conservation of natural resources; (b) guaranteeing the participation of citizens in decision-making proceedings. Article 2 of the Act contains the definition of EIA and defines its structure. Article 4 provides for the establishment of the Technical Environmental Committee. Annex A specifies the projects and works which shall be subject to the ordinary EIA procedure; Annex B lists out the projects and works to which the simplified procedure shall apply.
