Abstract

The present Regulations enforce the Nuclear Safety and Control Act (S.C. 1997, c. 9). In particular, the Regulations set limits on the amount of radiation the public and nuclear energy workers can receive. The Regulations require that every licensee implements a radiation protection programme keeping the amount of exposure to ionizing radiation as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA). Dose limits are also defined in the afore-mentioned Regulations. The text - consisting of 26 sections – deals with the following aspects: interpretation and application, obligations of licensees and nuclear energy workers, Radiation Protection Programme, ascertainment and recording of doses, provision of information, radiation dose limits, dosimetry services, labelling and signs. Three Schedules are enclosed.
