Abstract

These Regulations have the objective of reducing pollution of surface waters and groundwater caused or induced by nitrates from agricultural sources and preventing such further pollution. The Competent authority shall identify waters affected by pollution and waters which could be affected by pollution if action is not takes pursuant to regulation 6 in accordance with criteria set out in Annex I ("vulnerable zones"). The authority shall establish codes of good agricultural practice and action programmes in respect of vulnerable zones. Annex III sets out measures to be included in such action programmes. Regulation 7 makes provision for the designation of vulnerable zones by the Competent Authority. Offences and penalties are prescribed. (14 regulations completed by 3 Schedules)
