The Act consists of 47 sections divided into four Chapters: Preliminary (1); The 1971 Convention (2); The 1992 Convention (3); Regulations (4). The Act is completed by 3 Schedules containing the text of the Convention and the Protocols. The Governor-General may make regulations prescribing matters (a) required or permitted by this Act to be prescribed; or (b) necessary or convenient to be prescribed for the carrying out or giving effect to this Act. The Fund has the same legal personality as a company and may intervene in proceedings for compensation arising under Part II of the Protection of the Sea (Civil Liability) Act of 24 August 1995.
