The Act enters into force on 1 January 2002.
Abstract

This Act aims at protecting the environment through the prevention of waste generation resulting from packaging. In particular, it sets out rules to reduce weight, size and harmfulness of packing materials and chemical substances in packing materials. The Act specifies rights and obligations of individuals and legal persons involved in activities concerning the disposal of packing materials as well as the placing on the market of such materials. Further the Act sets out the penalties to be applied in case of infringement. The Act is composed of the following Sections: (1) Basic provisions; (2) Basic obligations concerning the disposal of packing materials and wastes; (3) Authorized packaging entities; (4) Registration and fees; (5) Public services in the field of disposal of packing materials and wastes; (6) Penalties and proceedings; (7) Common and transitional provisions.
