Abstract The Order sets regulations on the protection of beluga whales (Delphinapterus leucas) and narwhals (Monodon Monoceros) implementing quotas related to their catch and restrictions of hunting methods. The yearly quota for white and narwhal hunting takes place between 1 January and 31 December; allocation of quotas for the various geographically defined areas are established by the Minister for Fisheries, Hunting and Agriculture after consultation with Kalaallit Nunaanni Aalisartut Piniartullu Kattuffiat (KNAPK) Tapertaralugu Piniartartut Aalisartartullu Kattuffiat (TPAK) and the Local Government Association (KANUKOKA). Methods of hunting are restricted to the use of min. .30-06 (7,62x63 mm.) rifle caliber and catch may not occurr by the ice/land borders. Slaughtering shall occur immediatelly after catch and notified to local authorities. Bycatch of white or narwhal whales may not be sold and must be deducted from the municipality or the management area quota.
