The Order applies to the conservation and hunting of caribou (Rangifer tarandus) in Greenland with exception of areas designated for captive keeping purposes. It sets regulations on licensing requirements indicating an annual hunting quota set by gender and age and with a limited hunting season period going from 15 August to 10 September. Permitted weapons may be .222 Remington Magnum rifles; other rifles, shotguns and semi-automatic and automatic weapons are not allowed for caribou hunting. The catch must be marked for identification by local authorities. The Order applies to commercial, leisure and hunting for scientific purposes.
