Entry into force notes
Sections 26, 29, 30(1)(b), 31, 32, and 33 come into force on the earlier of the following: (a) a date to be fixed by the Governor-General by Order in Council; and 1 or more Orders in Council may be made bringing these provisions into force on different dates: (b) 1 November 2012. Section 30(1)(a) comes into force on 1 July 2012. Schedule 1, in relation to a species listed in that schedule, comes into force on the earlier of the following: (a) the date to be fixed by the Governor-General by Order in Council made under section 67(1) in relation to the species: (b) 1 March 2013. The rest of this Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent.
Abstract

The purpose of this Act, consisting of 5 Parts and four Schedules, is to establish an animal identification and tracing system that: (a) provides for the rapid and accurate tracing of individual, or groups of, NAIT animals from birth to death or live export; and (b) provides information on the current location and movement history of individual, or groups of, NAIT animals; and (c) improves biosecurity management; and (d) manages risks to human health arising from residues in food, food-borne diseases, and diseases that are transmissible between animals and humans; and (e) supports improved animal productivity, market assurances, and trading requirements.
