Abstract This Law, consisting of 8 Chapters, establishes the State Water Policy (SEGRH-MG). The Water Policy aims at the following aspects: right of access to water resources for all, with priority to public water supply and for ecosystem protection purposes; integrated management of water resources with multiple use; recognition of water resources as a natural ecological, social, and economic value, which use must be guided by the principles of the sustainable development; adoption of the hydrographical basin, seen as an integrated system including physical, biotic and other means, as physical territorial unit for planning and management; taxes and royalties for water use according to available water quantity and quality; prevention from adverse effects brought by pollution, floods and soil erosion; etc. Full text Portuguese Website www.almg.gov.br References - Legislation Implemented by Decree No. 41.578 regulating the State Water Policy.
