Abstract Regulation on ecolabelling aims to create a voluntary ecolabelling system and promote on the market products and services with minimal environmental impact throughout their life cycle, compared to other products and services belonging to the same group of products and services. This Regulation establishes requirements for certification bodies in the field of ecolabelling, a procedure for checking the conformity of products and services, criteria for issuing an ecolabel, as well as a procedure for monitoring products and services with ecolabel. This Regulation does not apply to: (a) medicines for humans; (b) veterinary medicinal products; (c) medical products; (d) food products and feed; and (e) products containing substances, mixtures and preparations that meet the criteria for classification as toxic or hazardous to the environment. An ecolabel is a graphic symbol placed on a product, packaging, brochure or other information document that accompanies a product or service and provides the necessary information regarding the criteria for granting an ecolabel to products and services on the market. Ecolabelling certification bodies are private sector legal entities, independent and impartial, accredited by the National Accreditation Centre. If the ecolabelling certification body determines that a product or service do not meet the criteria for granting an ecolabel, or if the operator has not paid the product and service conformity testing fee, it will refuse to issue a certificate of conformity, giving reasons. The certificate of conformity is valid for 3 years with the possibility of extension for the same period. The criteria for granting an ecolabel are based on the environmental performance of the products and are established scientifically, taking into account the entire product life cycle.
