Abstract These Regulations, consisting of 8 sections divided into three Parts and completed by three Schedules, specify Food Safety and Standards for the fortification of Foodstuff. The provisions of these regulations shall supersede standards on fortification of food set out in any regulations, orders, or guidelines issued under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 thereunder save as regards regulations on nutraceuticals and foods for Special Dietary Uses. Their objectives aims to regulate the micro-nutrients which may be appropriately added to food for the purpose of contributing to the purposes mentioned in Schedule I. They establish the following principles: Any manufacturer who fortifies food shall ensure that the level of micro-nutrient does not fall below the minimum level specified in Schedule I; Every manufacturer and packer of fortified food shall ensure food quality and submit evidence of steps taken in this regard to the Food Authority; Compliance with the generally applicable provisions of the Act, Regulations and Standards; Packaging and Labeling Requirements; Promotion of Fortified Food.
