Abstract This law is issued with the purpose of (a) enacting the issuance of Regulations as regards the compliance of the Cypriot legislative frame with EU legislation on materials in contact with foodstuffs; (b) expand further the powers of inspection and control on materials in contact with foodstuffs; (c) include a broader number of cases in which controlling officers may sample foodstuffs for official analysis. The Law may be cited as the Food (Control and Sale) (Amendment) (No. 2) Law of 2004 and shall be read as one with the Food (Control and Sale) Laws of 1996 up to 2003 (Νο. 3) (hereinafter referred to as “the principal Law”). The principal Law and the present Law shall be read as one and will be referred to as the Food (Control and Sale) Laws 1996-2003 (No. 4). With the present Law articles 14, 15 and 29 to the principal law are amended, as regards materials in contact with foodstuffs. More specifically, in article 14 paragraph (d) is replaced; section (1) to article 15 is replaced and a new section (2A) is added; paragraphs (e) and (i) of section (1) to article 29 are replaced with the text contained herewith.
