Abstract

These Regulations of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) prescribe quality standards and provide for the classification of edible fats and oils. They prohibit the manufacture, importation, exportation, advertisement, sale or distribution of fats and oils specified in the First Schedule in Nigeria unless the products have been registered in accordance with the provisions of these Regulations with NAFDAC. The Regulations prescribe specific labelling requirements for fats and oils in general and for trans fats. The Schedules set out quality requirements for various types of oils and fatds. Edible fats and oils may contain additional permitted colours, provided that the added colours do not deceive or mislead the consumer by concealing damage or low quality or by making the products appear to be greater than their value.
