The Office shall promote the efficient use of energy and national awareness for the efficient use of energy as a means to reduce carbon emissions and protect the environment. To carry out these objectives, the Office shall, among other things: develop and implement strategies, programmes and action plans for the efficient use of energy and establish procedures to monitor energy efficiency and consumption. The Office shall be administered and managed by the Energy Efficiency Committee. The Director of the Office may direct any person responsible for an energy consumer to commission an energy audit to be conducted by an energy auditor. The Minister may, in the public interest, exempt any energy consumer from the application of this Act or any Regulations made under it and for such period as he or she deems necessary.
