Abstract

This Decree prescribes the health conditions to be met by meat-based products and other products of animal origin destined, after previous treatment, to human consumption or intended for the manufacture of other foodstuffs. Article 1 defines with detail the application scope. The national Veterinary Service shall be in charge of market surveillance as regards the sanitary conditions under which these products are put into circulation (art. 3). Establishments engaged in the preparation or marketing of such products shall be subjected to prior authorization. Veterinary experts from the Commission of the European Community are entitled to carry out inspections (art. 10). Articles 13 and 14 specify the measures to be adopted in case of spread of certain animal diseases, such as the African swine pest. Annex A lays down general conditions relating to the approval of establishments as well as the hygienic requirements to be met by the premises, equipment, tools and personnel. Annex B sets out special conditions applicable to meat-based products, including provisions in matter of packaging, labelling, sanitary stamps, storage, transport. Annex C deals with health conditions regarding the preparation of other products of animal origin. Annex D contains the model of the health certificate.
