Abstract This Decree, consisting of 75 articles divided into six Chapters and three Annexes, regulates the State Secretariat for Environment and Sustainable Development (SEMAD). SEMAD aims to formulate, coordinate, implement and supervise public policies for the conservation, preservation and recovery of environmental resources, aiming at sustainable development and improvement of the environmental quality of the State. It is responsible to plan, execute and coordinate environmental management in a participatory and decentralized way, through environmental regularization and other environmental management instruments; coordinate and carry out administrative police power; promote environmental education and production of scientific awareness to improve the formulation and implementation of state policies on the environment and water resources; propose and establish norms related to the conservation, preservation and recovery of environmental resources and the control of activities considered effectively or potentially polluting or capable of causing environmental degradation in cooperation with other organs; guide, assess and decide on processes of environmental licensing and authorization for environmental intervention, except for the powers of the State Environmental Policy Council - COPAM; determine emergency measures; decide, through its regional environmental agencies, on environmental licensing processes for environmental activities according to their potentiality of pollution; etc. Full text Portuguese Website www.almg.gov.br References - Legislation Repeals Decree No. 45.824 regulating the State Secretariat of Environment and Sustainable Development.
