Abstract This Decree-Law, composed of 3 Chapters and seven Annexes, rules on the deliberate release into the environment of genetically modified organisms, as well as the commercialization of products composed by GMOs. The Decree-Law introduces in the national legal system the Directive 2001/18/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the deliberate release into the environment of genetically modified organisms and repeals the Decree-Law No. 126/93 of 20 April 1993. The Annexes provide: technical rules and standards, guidelines for environmental risk assessments and monitoring reports, notification procedures, monitoring plans.
