Abstract This Decree-Law, consisting of 33 articles divided into five Chapters and eight Annexes, establishes the legal regime for producing water for being reused (ApR), obtained from the treatment of wastewater in order to promote its correct use and avoid harmful effects to health and for the environment. This Decree-Law amends Decree-Law No. 75/2015 of 11 May amended by Decree-Law No. 39/2018 of 11 June approving the Environment Licensing Regime (LUA). It applies to the reuse of water from domestic, urban and industrial wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) for uses compatible with its quality, namely irrigation, landscape, urban and industrial use. It also applies to the reuse of remaining water from certain types of agricultural crop, in particular off-ground crops, which, if collected, could be used to irrigate another crops. This Decree-Law does not apply to the reuse of water for human consumption, which is defined by Decree-Law 306/2007 of 27 August. The risks of legionella contagion arising from the use of ApR are assessed under Law No. 52/2018 of 20 August, which establishes prevention and control regime against this disease.
