Abstract

This Directive sets out animal health requirements for the importation into and transit through the Community of live ungulates, with a view to protecting animal health. For the present purposes, ungulates shall mean the animal species listed in Annex I. The importation of live ungulates into and transit through the Community shall only be authorized from third countries that appear on a list or lists to be drawn up in accordance with the procedure defined under article 4. Certain amendments are laid down to article 12 of Directive 90/426/EEC on animal health conditions governing the movement and import from third countries of equidae and to Directive 92/65/EEC laying down animal health requirements governing trade in and imports into the Community of animals, semen, ova and embryos.
