"Consumer goods" is defined as goods which are destined for personal use by the purchaser or its relatives or acquaintances. It implements provisions of Directives of the European Communities which form part of the Agreement establishing an European Economic Area. Section 3 of Chapter II, containing general provisions regarding labelling, grants power to the Government to enact rules regarding labelling of specific products. These rules may regulate the indication of name and address of the producer or import, the country of origin, weight, ingredients etc., and certain characteristics of the products which do not appear evident of the product itself and which may be required for judgement by the customer. Section 4 prohibits manufacturing, sale or importation of products which are not properly labelled. Chapter III provides for voluntary ecological labelling in the sense of the EEA Agreement (Council Directive on a Community Eco-label Reward Scheme).
