Abstract

Decision directed to Parties

Parties where demand for pangolin specimens exists should: a) closely monitor any domestic markets to ensure that they do not contribute to poaching or illegal trade, and if any relation to poaching or illegal trade are detected, strictly implement the provisions of paragraph 1 d) of Resolution Conf. 17.10 (Rev. CoP20); and b) reduce demand for illegal pangolin specimens, by actively pursuing the implementation of paragraph 9 of Resolution Conf. 17.10 (Rev. CoP20), including by mobilizing targeted and evidence-based approaches as recommended in Resolution Conf. 17.4 (Rev. CoP19) on Demand reduction strategies to combat illegal trade in CITES-listed species and the associated Guidance for CITES Parties to develop and implement demand reduction strategies.
