Abstract

Decision directed to Secretariat

The Secretariat shall, subject to external resources: a) update and expand the materials in the Virtual College relating to the preparation and submission of proposals to amend the CITES Appendices as a capacity-building measure with the goal of providing more comprehensive and useful advice to Parties who may wish to prepare such proposals; b) develop an appropriate mechanism on the CITES website for Parties to upload information and where the information is not publicly available, restrict it to Parties, such as: i) methodologies used for identifying species that may or may not be at risk of extinction and/or threatened by international trade and are either not yet regulated under CITES or may receive insufficient CITES regulation; ii) information or analyses on the status of species (or other taxonomic groups) that may or may not be at risk of extinction and/or threatened by international trade and are either not yet regulated under CITES or may receive insufficient CITES regulation; and iii) information in regard to Resolution Conf. 9.24 (Rev. CoP17) on Criteria for amendment of Appendices I and II, specifically in Annex 2 b, on species (or other taxonomic groups) that may be considered as look-alikes of taxa referenced in paragraph b) ii). c) update the CITES website with information derived from activities implemented by the Secretariat based on Decisions adopted by the Conference of the Parties. d) report on progress with the implementation of paragraphs a) to c) above and provide any recommendations to the 21st meeting of the Conference of Parties.
