Résumé

The Prime Minister with the consent of the Cabinet may by notice in the Gazette declare any insect to be a pest and by like notice may also declare that any place is for the purposes of this Act a prohibited place. Any person bringing or introducing into Tonga any live specimen of the rhinoceros beetle or any other pest or any plant, wood, fruit, soil, knowing it to harbor or to be infested with or affected by the rhinoceros beetle or any other pest shall commit an offence. Plants and articles of native manufacture may not be imported unless fumigated at the port of entry in accordance with section 4. Other provisions of the Act deal with measures of enforcement. The Privy Council may enact legislation for the prevention and spreading of the rhinoceros beetle or any other pest. (10 sections)
