Operations subject to registration are those where maximum biomass in food fish farming and research farming is up to 20 tonnes at a time and the maximum biomass in juvenile farming is up to 1,000 kg or 10,000 juveniles at any time. Aquaculture establishments subject to registration are also subject to an operating license. The Regulation covers different aspect of fish farm operations, including the use of aquaculture equipment, transport of live farmed fish, internal controls, reporting obligations, etc. Article 17, concerning vaccination, prohibits the use of vaccines and antibiotics in aquaculture unless approved by the competent authority. Care should be taken when using medicines and other substances in a fish farm to prevent such substances from being released into the environment.
