It regulates the organic interventions intended for fighting cultivated plant pests and lays down provisions in matter of production, transformation and packaging of organic agricultural commodities. The main purposes are: a) restriction of the use of chemical substances in agriculture; b) maintenance of soil fertility; c) rational use of environmental resources; d) promotion of organic agricultural commodities quality. Part II of the Act makes provision on integrated, guided and organic fighting measures against pests. Within three months from the entry into force of the Act, the regional authority shall fix criteria for the elaboration of related programmes. The programmes shall be drawn up and enforced by: a) organic producers' associations; b) agricultural cooperatives; c) agricultural producers' consortia. Article 5 concerns the allocation of financial resources by the Region. Part III lays down rules in matter of organic production methods. Organic producers' associations shall be recognized by the regional authority when they fulfill all the requirements listed out in articles 9 and 10. Such associations must keep an up-to-date register on the associated enterprises. Article 12 regulates the withdrawal of the recognition. Inspections on processing methods shall be carried out by recognized associations and by the Region. Article 20 sets out penalties.
