Section 98 enters into force on 8 March 2016. Résumé The purposes of this Act are to: establish a framework to protect the health and safety of people and protect the environment from the harmful effects of ionising radiation; enable New Zealand to meet its international obligations relating to radiation protection, radiation safety and security, and nuclear non-proliferation, including (but not limited to) its obligations under the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material done at New York and Vienna on 3 March 1980; the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism done at New York on 14 September 2005; the Agreement between New Zealand and the International Atomic Energy Agency for the Application of Safeguards in Connection with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons done at Vienna on 29 February 1972; and the Protocols to the agreement described in subparagraph (iii).
