This part of the Code of Federal Regulations establishes primary drinking water regulations pursuant to section 1412 of the Public Health Service Act, as amended by the Safe Drinking Water Act (Pub. It applies to each public water system, unless the public water system meets all of the following conditions: (a) consists only of distribution and storage facilities (and does not have any collection and treatment facilities); (b) obtains all of its water from, but is not owned or operated by, a public water system to which such regulations apply: (c) does not sell water to any person; and (d) is not a carrier which conveys passengers in interstate commerce. More specifically, the part provides for maximum contaminant levels; monitoring and analytical requirements; reporting and recordkeeping; special regulations, including monitoring regulations and prohibition on lead use; maximum contaminant level goals and maximum residual disinfectant level goals; national primary drinking water regulations: maximum contaminant levels and maximum residual disinfectant levels; filtration and disinfection; control of lead and copper; use of non-centralized treatment devices; streatment techniques; disinfectant residuals, disinfection byproducts, and disinfection byproduct precursors; consumer confidence reports; enhanced filtration and disinfection—systems serving 10,000 or more people; public notification of drinking water violations; ground water rule; enhanced filtration and disinfection—systems serving fewer than 10,000 people; initial distribution system evaluations; stage 2 disinfection byproducts requirements; enhanced treatment for cryptosporidium; and revised total coliform rule.
