Résumé This Legislative Decree approves the Labour Code of Cape Verde, applicable to all subordinate employment relationships established within the framework of private, cooperative and mixed companies. The Labour Code is equally applicable to all situations in which a person undertakes, through an employment contract, to provide their professional activity to a legal person governed by public law or similar, under the orders and direction of the respective bodies, but without submission to the legal status of the public service. Rural work and work in High Labour Intensity Fronts are governed by special legislation, without prejudice to the subsidiary application of the precepts of this Code in everything that is not regulated in this legislation. Workers have the right to fair remuneration, according to the quantity, nature and quality of the work performed. Task description and job evaluation systems must be based on objective criteria common to men and women, in order to exclude any discrimination based on sex and pregnant women must work under conditions that do not harm the pregnancy. In addition, the Code regulates child labour conditions.
