Résumé

The Public Power Corporation (ΔΕΗ) has the exclusive right of electricity production from any source, including the transmission and distribution of this form of energy throughout the country. This is the general rule, unless the Minister of Development issues Decisions with which the production of electricity from power stations belonging to juridical persons or entities may be permitted. Therefore, this Law, consisting of 11 articles, provides for the arrangement of the procedures and principles regarding the activities of electric power autoproducers (generating plants of electric power covering essentially their own needs). The autoproduction of energy is allowed if generated by renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind and geothermal, water resources (capacity up to 2MW). Furthermore, the co-generation of electricity with conventional fuels by autoproducers is allowed, provided that the relevant conditions, set forth in article 1, are respected. The distribution of electric power derived by autoproducers is regulated in article 2. A license for the installation and operation of such power plants is required. This matter is regulated in articles 3 and 4 (penalties for plants operating without a license). The rest of the articles provide for the general and transitional provisions.
