Cutting trees in private lands may also be controlled by forest officials in cases where this is in the public interest, where water supply or agricultural land is threatened. Such land will be treated as forest reserve and the owner is responsible for the costs of protecting the forest. The Ordinance then lists those activities which are prohibited in a forest reserve, unless a permit is obtained. The Minister may declare protected tree species and a list of these is included.
